Straps & Rope
A field guide on aerial straps:
This course is intended for aerialists who already have some experience on straps or any other aerial apparatuses.
We will work through the basic positions on the straps but quickly continue towards spinning technique and swings.
We will work on all families within the aerial straps vocabulary and focus on individual interest and preferences.
Rope:
Rollups and other fun stuff.
C-shaping and rollups are a huge family within aerial rope. Through exercises on the floor and on the rope we will work on understanding the principle of c-shaping and will then apply it to work on skills including: Single coil rollups, hipkey rollups, flare to flag, beat to flag, rollup to supported flag, inside twist and more.

Diagonal Silks
Through this workshop we will discover the created by the movement of diagonally knotted silks. I started to research this method 2,5 years ago, and I fallen in love with the autonomy of the material. During the workshop I offer an introduction of spinning techniques and sequences created in this different dimension.
Bio:
Co-founded One Thousand Faces, our contemporary aerial collective, creating the show TERRA. Founded Time Traveller Circus, a performance group bringing the stories of past circus artists to life. Collaboration with my partner, creating a duet with live electronic music and silks. Co-founded Budapest Aerial Meeting, fostering connection and knowledge sharing within the regional aerial community. Working as a soloist on corporate events and winning awards at European and Hungarian Aerial Championships.

Marta Matovelle
Trapeze
For aerialists who would like to explore new ways to express themselves in the
trapeze. We will work on expanding our repertoire on the trapeze, this will involve
mastering a diverse array of movements. Expect dynamic tricks on bar and ropes, as
well as movements drawn from Marta’s research.
AerialCreation
Inspired by everyday movement, we will dive into Marta’s methodology of aerial
creation to explore different ways of developing personal material and refining
movement quality across various aerial apparatuses. Through guided improvisations
and compositional tasks, we will investigate how daily gestures can be transformed
into a means of communication in the air.
Bio:
Marta is based in Saint-Nazaire, France. Her background in visual arts and art history
shapes the way she thinks about space, form, and composition in her circus work.
She co-founded the collectives One Thousand Faces and La Prima, and created
IMPROLAB, an improvised circus performance. Her artistic path includes collaborations with
Hungarian companies Firebirds and Living Picture, as well as French directors Albin Warette
and Fred Deb’. Her solo project Broken, supported by Culture Moves Europe, DRAC, and
UNAT, began at La Volière (France) under the mentorship of Fred Deb’, where she explored
the creative potential of a broken trapeze.
Marta is also co-creator of Re/compose, a contemporary aerial duet developed with Milena
Hofmann that dismantles both the apparatus and technique to explore the beauty of
instability. The project has evolved through residencies and research phases in Switzerland,
France, and Zurich, with further support from Budapest Aerial Meeting and Circusnext.
Her aerial practice focuses on the plasticity of movement and the creative possibilities of the
apparatus. She draws inspiration from visual arts, 20th-century architecture, theater,
clowning, dance, and music. Since 2020, she has taught regular classes in Hungary and
France, as well as workshops across Europe at festivals like Les Rencontres de Danse
Aérienne (FR), Grazer Akrobatik Festival (AU), World Circus Day (SK), Budapest Aerial
Meeting (HU), Fuskafest (SL), among others.

Gaspar Téri & Ilka Bardóczy
Chinese Pole Technique – Foundation
The aim of the workshop is to familiarize yourself with the basic pole techniques and frequently used motifs.
These elements can be used in pole sport, Chinese pole, and swing pole.
The topics of the first session are hangings, catches, locks, climbs, lifts, and the transitions between static poses based on these. As a rest, we will get acquainted with dynamic and momentum elements.
In the first step, we work on getting to know hanging points, support points, and grip surfaces. We observe the load mechanisms affecting the body, then we observe the possibilities of moving out of static positions and the transitions between the given elements.
The second session of the workshop focuses on the construction of pair and synchronized elements.
No experience on a pole is required to participate in the workshop, but adequate fitness and coordination for using a pole is an advantage.
(German hang, belly hang, one-handed hang, knee hang)
Clothing: Thin, soft and flexible sole shoes. Strong, not baggy linen pants or elastic jeans (underwear optional). Tight but strong outerwear, wrist wraps or a thong.
The workshop is held by Ilka Bardóczy and Gáspár Téri, founders and artistic directors of the Grotesque Gymnastics company. The company was founded in 2013. They create short and full-length performances, combining elements of circus, dance, live music and theatre.
Bio:
Ilka Bardóczy – Former pole vault competitor, multiple world and European champion. He has been training professional artists and amateur athletes for 14 years. He leads further training in the field of sport-specific and other movement skills development. He is the professional director of Concrete Studio.
Gáspár Téri – Works as a performer, director and choreographer in the fields of dance and physical theatre. He combines these areas with the circus genre's Chinese pole and swing pole tools. He has been leading trainings and teaching in the field of movement training development in actor training for 15 years. (SZFE, FreeSzfe, Budapest Actors' Academy)

Rolland Andre
Rolland André “Prince of the Air”, is a freelance aerialist and movement artist. It has been more than 15 years
since he climbed aerial silks the first time and he got addicted immediately. Since then, he never stopped looking for more possibilities and new ways on this prop. He was awarded 1st place with his aerial hoop act at the National Championship in 2016. Rolland continued his training by learning aerial straps and in February 2019 he graduated from Baross Imre Hungarian Acrobatic School. He continues looking for possibilities to mix aerial dance, contemporary art, and creative movements.
Wall Dance Workshop
Wall Dance is a modern and vertical art. The artist dances against a wall while abseiling with climbing tools and ropes. This creates an illusion where the rules of gravity no longer apply! The result: fascinating movements and three dimensional acrobatics. In this workshop we will explore the basics of this art form so come and try it out for yourself!

Hoop
LYRA FLOW
During the sessions we create a nurturing space where I share my experience in technique merged with a soft and organic approach.
The focus is on using technique as the foundation for further independent work. From mastering transitions and rolls to exploring dynamics and falls, we learn to effortlessly flow from the floor to the air with grace and precision.
Experiencing the integration of technical skills into movement qualities as we navigate from the ground to the air, forming a deeply personal connection with the aerial hoop.
Main topics:
technique (transitions, rolls, dynamics)
sequence building
aspects of performance
Bio:
Dorottya Podmaniczky is a multidisciplinary artist and teacher from Budapest, who combines contemporary dance and circus techniques through her own filter. In addition to her own artistic projects, she is a member of the collectives Firebirds and One Thousand Faces, and is currently touring Europe with various international productions.
In 2023 she participated in the international “Together Circus Invitation” directed by Albin Warette, a site-specific performance series held in Greece and Hungary. A year later in 2024 she got the opportunity to be part of the “Budapest Dance Hack” which was about connecting dance and technology in a performative way.
Her teaching experience includes workshops and courses in contemporary dance, creative aerial hoop techniques, and her Swirling Wings method, including engagements at prestigious institutions like the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest. Currently she gives regular Lyra Flow aerial hoop classes at the Inspiral Circus Center, travels with her creative aerial workshops, and teaches periodically at the Budapest Circus Art and Contemporary Dance Collage and at the Budapest Drama School.
